WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM ZANZIBAR?

The Zanzibar archipelago is full of paradisiacal islands surrounded by a crystal clear sea. The main ones are: Unguja, the largest and most populated, and Pemba also known as Al Kuh Dra “the green island”.

Unguja houses the capital Stone Town, where you can visit the birthplace of Freddie Mercury the singer of Queen, and is usually the most visited island thanks to the presence of numerous tourist villages managed by tour operators.

INFORMATION AND AVERAGE COSTS OF A TRIP

Accomodation – From guest houses to luxury resorts. Zanzibari hospitality offers the opportunity to get in touch with the culture of the place. Many resorts, overlooking the beaches, are close to fishing villages. Tourists can interact not only with the Beach Boys vendors and the Masai, but also with the villagers, discovering their habits and culture.

Food – In Zanzibar the flavors of Africa, the Middle East and Asia are intertwined. On the table there is always fresh fish, grilled or presented as a soup, it is one of the main ingredients of Zanzibari cuisine. Try the lobsters. In addition to fish, you will find many dishes with spicy flavors because there are many plantations of aromatic herbs on the island.

Flying to Zanzibar – The best season to visit Zanzibar is from December to February. You will need a visa to enter and you can do it directly at the airport at a cost of about 50 dollars. Before leaving, take out good health insurance.

Getting around – Rely on the transport services offered by the tour operator with whom you will travel as the roads, in some areas, are winding and unpaved. If you want to move on your own, ask at the hotel if there is a shuttle bus or private taxi service: a guide will help you find your way.

Suggested daily budget – around 5 to 60 USD
