A huge, savage and uncontaminated beach.
A corner of Myanmar totally undiscovered along the coast of Andaman sea. There aren’t other words to describes Ngapali beach: a paradise where the silence is interrupted only by the sounds of the sea and nature. Discovered by chance thanks to the ranking of the “ten most beautiful beaches in the world” has been revealed the ideal destination to spend the last days of my trip to Myanmar. Ngapali is located in the Rakhine region, the westernmost of the country, known to the news for the Rohingya affairs, people of Muslim faith, expelled from 2012 by the city of Sittawe with violent actions that in recent times have generated other clashes between Muslims and Buddhists.
However, the Ngapali beach area is safe.
Just an hour’s flight from Yangon to the airport of Thandwe with a spectacular landing that allows you to admire the beauty of the sea and the immense golden sand beach. We have traveled by the company Air Kbz and the experience was positive despite the anxiety of losing the plane: we left Bagan and arrived in Yangon half an hour before the flight to Ngapali which was the last of the day. During the raining season, in fact, there are only three flights from Yangon to Thandwe- Ngapali.
Fundamental for ticket booking and assistance at the airport was the support of the Teo Guida Burma agency. Tickets cost a total of about $ 200 but it was worth it to reach the sea.
Ten minutes from the airport there is the Amazing Ngapali Resort : the hotel that hosted us for a week. The 5-star property overlooks the beach and offers accommodation in mini-apartments or private villas. Among its advantages, in addition to the location, the infinity pool, the abundant breakfast, the free shuttle bus to the airport and tourist attractions and the possibility to rent bikes to explore the surroundings. For those staying during the rainy season, there are benefits: a free drink every day, a free massage and dinner and, every afternoon, a snack with biscuits and bottles of water.
Ngapali isn’t the classic Asian seaside resort, don’t expect locals and services like those of the beaches of Thailand, because here mass tourism has not yet arrived. The ideal time to visit is from November to March, then comes the monsoon why some hotels close and the flights are halved. The characteristic of the place, in fact, is its simplicity: Ngapali is made of villages of fishermen and farmers, but I will tell you this story in the next article…
